Arena Cave Scenes are Josh Hutcherson’s Favorite

Josh Hutcherson has seen The Hunger Games, and his favorite section is the cave in the arena. He told Sci-Fi magazine-
I loved the [arena] cave stuff. All of the stuff in the cave was my favorite part to shoot and my favorite parts I’ve seen as well. At that point you really get to see Katniss and Peeta’s relationship takes a big turn and a lot of the meat of their arc happens in those cave sequences. For me as an actor, that was really fun to play because you get to do the big arc of the character right there as well as knowing it’s going to be satisfying for the audience to see those beloved, very tender, real, emotional moments played on the screen.
The April issue of Sci-Fi features Katniss and Peeta on the cover and will be available on February 14.
Josh Hutcherson on his connection with Peeta
IGN interviewed Josh Hutcherson recently and talked about playing Peeta Mellark.
IGN: How gruelling was the audition process?Hutcherson: It wasn’t physically gruelling but mentally it was rough because I’ve never connected with a character more than I have with Peeta. I felt he was so much who I am as a person and what my core beliefs are. It drove me crazy because I thought, “I’m perfect for this!” They were the toughest few weeks of my life just because I wanted it so badly.
IGN: What’s your connection with Peeta?
Hutcherson: It’s the belief of not letting something change you, which is very much a driving force in Peeta’s motivation throughout the stories. That’s completely who I am. This business hasn’t changed me and people don’t change me and the most important thing is that at night when you lay there by yourself, all you have is you and if you’re not true to yourself, what else matters?
IGN: Did you enjoy the shoot? Hutcherson: I really enjoyed all the action stuff. It was like running around playing in the woods like I did all my life growing up. It was gruelling but it was made easy by [director] Gary [Ross] and by the greatness of the story. Even though it was this big, epic studio franchise, it didn’t feel like that on set. It was a very intimate setting which I feel allowed for everybody to give great performances.IGN: Being part of this potentially huge franchise, did you feel any pressure, like, “I’d better not screw this up”?Hutcherson: You know, because I was confident in the idea that I was so much Peeta in myself, I wasn’t worried about that as much as I was terrified of what my life might become. That’s the scariest part of it all for me.
IGN: The expectations are for it to become the new Twilight…
Hutcherson: If that does end up being the case, I’ll be so grateful and terrified at the same time.

Videos of Josh Hutcherson in Mexico City for “Journey 2: Mysterious Island”
Josh Hutcherson has been trekking the globe for his new film Journey 2: Mysterious Island.
Check out the video above which shows some footage from the red carpet in Mexico City yesterday. Josh speaks a bit of Spanish at 1:50!
During a recent press event for the movie in Hawaii, he talked about The Hunger Games-
Have you seen any more finished shots for the film? How are you reacting so far?
Josh: I can’t wait for it to come out. I’ve seen some of the footage and the cornucopia stuff looks amazing; the countdowns when we all rush in, the way Gary [Ross, the director] edited it, it looks incredible.
Very cool. We hear you were a big fan of the novels and really had your heart set on playing Peeta.
Josh: Yeah. I said out loud that if I didn’t get that role, I didn’t know what I was gonna do. I had no idea. I was gonna keep acting but I never read a role that I connected with as much and that I felt like I was more right for in my life, so if I didn’t get it then I was like “Well, am I just a bad actor then?” Because Peeta is so much who I am how can I not play myself?
Empire Magazine UK Has Awesome New Pics
UK mag Empire has a spread in the March issue with amazing new images from The Hunger Games.
They include Effie primping with a compact and Haymitch dining with Peeta.
The set design is jaw-dropping. I don’t even know where to look with so much going on in each frame, yet it meshes together perfectly!
