On Sunday, the stars took to the rain for Britain’s answer to the Oscars, the BAFTAs, with The Hunger Games’ Jennifer Lawrence hoping to clinch the Best Actress nod for her stunning performance as Tiffany in Silver Linings Playbook.
Lawrence, who looked beautiful in a Dior Haute Couture gown, certainly made an impression on host Stephen Fry, a British comedian and actor, who asked her to blow a kiss at one of the cameras.
Lawrence, seen right with director Quentin Tarantino, looked a shoe-in for Best Actress after meeting with success at the SAG awards and the Golden Globes, but it wasn’t to be.
For Emmanuelle Riva, who will turn 86 on the night of the Oscars, received the honour for her performance in French film Amour.
Still, it wasn’t all bad for Silver Linings, as it received the Adapted Screenplay gong.
The Best Actress Oscars tussle was thought to be between Lawrence and Jessica Chastain, for her role in Zero Dark Thirty, but Riva’s BAFTAs success may have changed that.
Do you think Lawrence will clinch the coveted award? Or will she fall at the final hurdle as in 2011, when she lost out to Natalie Portman?
At first, fans were not all that excited about the blonde, shapely Jennifer Lawrence playing our beloved Katniss Everdeen. But after the “Hunger Games” movie release in March, there were no complaints to be heard. Unfortunately, our favorite heroine is still getting guff about her womanly figure.
“In Hollywood, I’m obese. I’m considered a fat actress,” states Lawrence in the December issue of “Elle” magazine.
Jennifer has never been one to conform to Hollywood standards, but now that she has a huge fan base, comprised mostly of younger teens thanks to her role in the “Hunger Games,” she wants to continue being a good role model for healthy self-image.
“I’m never going to starve myself for a part… I don’t want little girls to be like, ‘Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner,” says the Oscar-nominated actress. “That’s something I was really conscious of during training, when you’re trying to get your body to look exactly right. I was trying to get my body to look fit and strong — not thin and underfed.”
Despite the fact that Jennifer is one of the most sought-after talents, she does not plan to show off her riches in the form of a monstrous nine-bedroom castle. “Ten million dollars and I’m still living in my parents’ condo…I’ve always lived in a tiny rat-infested apartment in New York, or a little condo in L.A., or a normal house in Kentucky. I think it would be very bizarre to live in a big mansion by myself.”
As for the candid remarks we all seem to love, Jennifer admits she feels uneasy about how her statements will be received. “I never know what’s going to come out of my mouth, and it’s horrible. I don’t find it positive in any way. When I get older, I’ll be more mature and poised. And I’ll have control over my mouth. One day, I’m going to grow up…”
Regarding her love life with Nicholas Hoult, who she starred alongside in “X-Men: First Class, Lawrence says, “[My boyfriend] is honestly my best friend, and hopefully I’m his best friend too. He’s my favorite person to be around and makes me laugh harder than anybody.”
As a fellow curvy girl, I really admire Jennifer for being confident in her body and not caving in to the ridiculous standards of beauty we see in the media. A woman’s shape doesn’t matter, as long as she is healthy. And I hope Jennifer never loses that frankness – it’s part of what makes her so hilarious.
