Behind the Scenes of the “Safe and Sound” Music Video with Taylor Swift

This girl is pretty hardcore compared to most celebs. It’s one thing to be out in the cold and quite another to be out in the cold wearing a flimsy nightgown and no shoes! That’s what I love about this video – it really draws you into the setting, so much that you can almost feel the bitter breeze on the air and icy mud beneath your feet.

What was your favorite part of the “Safe and Sound” music video?

Get More: Music News

Singer/songwriter Taylor Swift sat down with MTV to discuss making the music video for Safe & Sound from the Hunger Games Soundtrack (which she says is her favorite one), what would her skills be if she was in the Hunger Games, and writing with Civil Wars!

the civil wars taylor swift safe sound taylor swift hunger games soundtrack Taylor Swift talks with MTV about making Safe & Sound Music Video taylor“I felt like I was really needing to pay tribute to this movie and tell this story,” Swift said. “There’s this moment in the music video where I find this mockingjay pin and hold it up.”

For those who have not read the books, the mockingjay pin is one of the most iconic symbols from the series. It was given to the main character, Katniss Everdeen (played in the film by Jennifer Lawrence), as a token to take into the arena to remind her of her Home, District 12.

The mockingjay and the pin itself are both symbols of rebellion in the books. The mockingjay is a species of bird inadvertently bred when the Capitol released “jabberjays” throughout the nation of Panem in an attempt to spy on its citizens. After the mission failed and the citizens of Panem learned how to feed lies to Capitol spies through the jabberjays, the Capitol ended the project, but the birds bred with mockingbirds in the wild, creating the mockingjay, which the Capitol was never able to eradicate.

We won’t spoil the rest, but the third book in the series is titled “Mockingjay,” and that isn’t just a reference to the bird or the pin anymore.

“I felt like I was really needing to pay tribute to this movie and tell this story,” Swift said. “There’s this moment in the music video where I find this mockingjay pin and hold it up.”

Completely blown away by Safe & Sound.  Just love it.  I was really hoping she’d sing Safe & Sound at the Grammys with Civil Wars. John Paul White cracked me up at the Grammys. I can’t wait to hear the rest of The Hunger Games Soundtrack.

Taylor Swift Would Kill in an Indirect Way

Taylor Swift Would Kill in an Indirect Way

taylor swift safe sound taylor swift Taylor Swift Would Kill in an Indirect Way taylor swift safe and soundIt’s to be expected: if you ever find yourself watching American Idol, you probably have a moment where you think about what you would sing if you happened to be on that stage.  And if you contemplate The Hunger Games, well… it’s another kind of stage in a sense, isn’t it?

When asked during an interview with MTV News what her skill would be if she were in the Hunger Games, Swift admitted she would be a little dodgy.

Honestly, I just, I think I would just be the person who runs and hides. Just to be as self-aware as possible, like I kind of freeze. You know how you have like fight, flight, or freeze. Those are your three reactions to something scary. Like, I just freeze. So I would try to run and hide somewhere.  There are a few ways that Katniss, kind of, in the book she has to kill people, but she does it in an indirect way. I think that would be something I would try to do.”

She went on to show some love to The Hunger Games fans, explaining that she “likes them a lot” and that they have been saying great things about her song, “Safe and Sound.”  Swift also admitted that “Safe and Sound” is her favorite music video that she has ever made!

So, perhaps it is a bit morbid, but what would your skill be if your name was drawn in the reaping?  Would you be confrontational like the Careers?  Evasive like Foxface?  Charismatic like Peeta, and align yourself with a group for an ulterior motive?
