Hunger Games News
On Sunday, the stars took to the rain for Britain’s answer to the Oscars, the BAFTAs, with The Hunger Games’ Jennifer Lawrence hoping to clinch the Best Actress nod for her stunning performance as Tiffany in Silver Linings Playbook.
Lawrence, who looked beautiful in a Dior Haute Couture gown, certainly made an impression on host Stephen Fry, a British comedian and actor, who asked her to blow a kiss at one of the cameras.
Lawrence, seen right with director Quentin Tarantino, looked a shoe-in for Best Actress after meeting with success at the SAG awards and the Golden Globes, but it wasn’t to be.
For Emmanuelle Riva, who will turn 86 on the night of the Oscars, received the honour for her performance in French film Amour.
Still, it wasn’t all bad for Silver Linings, as it received the Adapted Screenplay gong.
The Best Actress Oscars tussle was thought to be between Lawrence and Jessica Chastain, for her role in Zero Dark Thirty, but Riva’s BAFTAs success may have changed that.
Do you think Lawrence will clinch the coveted award? Or will she fall at the final hurdle as in 2011, when she lost out to Natalie Portman?

Life doesn’t always go according to plan. Pat Solatano has lost everything – his house, his job, and his wife. All Pat’s parents want is for him to get back on his feet – and to share their family’s obsession with the Philadelphia Eagles football team. When Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own, things get complicated. Tiffany offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, but only if he’ll do something very important for her in return. As their deal plays out, an unexpected bond begins to form between them, and silver linings appear in both of their lives.

Have you been saving up for something extra special? Or maybe you’re just fortunate enough to have some spare cash lying around you house? If you’ve answered yes to either of these questions, and are a HUGE Hunger Games fan you’re in luck because Target is coming out with some very interesting, but pricey, Hunger Games collectables.
To coincide with the release of the DVD/Blue-Ray of the movie on August 18th Target will be selling the following items in very limited quantities:
- Replica Mockingjay pins made of 14-carat gold at $999
- Replicas of the leather jacket Katniss wears in District 12, pictured below at $349
- Lithographs having the signatures of 10 of the movie’s stars, including Lawrence at $699
I think it’s interesting that Target, who’s known for selling reasonably priced item, would be offering these higher end items, but I’m sure they won’t have trouble selling off these products very quickly. Which one do you want the most?
“I’m super excited… it’s going to be amazing,” she told E! on Thursday night. Though she says she has not met with the director yet, reading the books is a task she already had under her belt.
“I read the whole series over a weekend when I had a wisdom tooth out,” she said. ”I was in bed looking for something to read and my little sister recommended it like a year and a half ago, so she was like, ‘You have to read it! You have to read it!’ And so I’m glad I finally did and I loved it.”
Variety has revealed that Tony Shalhoub, owner of not one, but three Emmys, is on the shortlist for the role of Beetee, the twitchy, techie victor from District 3. However, the 51-year-old actress Melissa Leo, who starred in “The Fighter” and was supposedly one of the frontrunners to play Mags, was recently informed that she did not win the part.
According to CSICON, Lionsgate may be going in a different direction concerning Mags. Cicely Tyson, who starred in “The Help,” is apparently their top choice for portraying the 80-year-old victor, who was noted by Katniss as having a talent for making fish hooks and who spoke only in gibberish for unknown reasons.
As for some of the more minor roles, Shockya is reporting that Victor Gojcaj (seen in “The Taking of Pelham 123″ and “Unstoppable”), Kevin Durand (starred in “Robin Hood,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and hit TV show “Lost”), and ex-WWF fighter Kevin Nash are in the running for the role of Brutus, a Career known for his power and brutality.
I haven’t seen Tony Shalhoub in anything recent so I can’t say I’m familiar enough with his work to believe he’s an excellent choice. But throw a pair of glasses on him and I think he could definitely pull of Beetee’s look. As for Cicely Tyson playing Mags, I loved the suggestion as soon as I heard it. Her role in “The Help,” though brief, was executed perfectly and I enjoyed her work in “Because of Winn Dixie” as well. She can take on slightly crazy Mags, no problem. As for Brutus, the character makes only a few appearances in the “Catching Fire,” which leads me to believe the same will be true in the movie. And because it’s not as crucial a role as the others, I won’t be devastated one way or another over who is chosen. But if I had to choose, it would be Kevin Durand, since his role as Martin Keamy in “Lost” is probably as close to Brutus as one can get.
What do you think about these shortlisters, Mockingjays? Are you less concerned about the casting of minor roles, or do you have someone in mind who you think would be perfect?
Though most people know 22-year-old Romeo Miller (or Lil’ Romeo) as the son of rapper Master P, Romeo actually has 10 years of acting experience and is hoping to expand those skills in the coming years.
“I want to be the next big action hero or I want to do a lot of romantic type movies, romantic comedies, a little bit of everything, but definitely the next action hero,” Miller told MTV News. “You can see me in ‘The Hunger Games’ or something like that. Just throwing that out there.”
With his family having read the series, Miller was drawn to the “Catching Fire” movie and there have already been talks of him possibly joining the franchise.
“I actually just met with Lionsgate about that, so you may be seeing me in one of the ‘Hunger Games.’ That’s all I’m saying,” Miller said. “Not a particular role, we just had a meeting, seeing if it was something I was interested in. I can’t really talk too much, or they’ll kill me. You know how ‘The Hunger Games’ is.”
I’m really curious as to which role Romeo Miller could be cast in. My first thought was Chaff, but he’s quite a bit older than this young actor. Or maybe he’s thinking of auditioning for Finnick, or another Tribute. Whatever the case, he might be an interesting addition to the cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Jena Malone has been offered the part of Johanna Mason in Catching Fire, the second installment of The Hunger Games movies.
Malone has the offer and is in early negotiations for the part, according to sources. The move nixes premature reports that pegged newbie actress-model Zoe Aggeliki as the front-runner to play the ax-wielding former Hunger Games winner from District 7, who aligns with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) in their return to the arena for an all-star death match.
What do you think about Malone being offered the part? Disappointed? Satisfied? Hoping she’ll turn it down? Let us know in the comments.
Amid a frenzy of rumors surrounding his possible role in the next installment of “The Hunger Games,” Taylor Kitsch last week told us he won’t be playing the attractive Finnick Odair in “Catching Fire.”
Finnick, who shows up for the first time in “Catching Fire,” is described by author Suzanne Collins as a handsome 24-year-old womanizer who excels at athletic pursuits. According to E! News, other actors still up for the part include Garrett Hedlund and Armie Hammer. But a producer of the sequel says even those whispers are “so not true.”
“That’s the thing that’s crazy — people are like way ahead of where we are,” Nina Jacobson told us on the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. “We’ve not narrowed things down by any means. It’s funny to see how things can take on a life of their own.”
But are the filmmakers taking fan input into account while seeking out their Finnick? Not entirely, says Jacobson.
“It means something that people can see [an actor] in that light, so you know [the actor] will be accepted by a lot of people, on the one hand,” she said. “On the other hand, you have to kind of ignore it. You have to just sort of act like you’re sitting in a room and you want to just pick the person who gives the best audition and looks and feels most like the part.”
I have no preference as to whom will play Finnick. I just want whomever it is to do the best job they can and bring Finnick to life on screen. Everyone was up in arms with Jennifer and Josh when they were first cast, and after their performance in The Hunger Games.. I think it shushed those few up quickly. So, I trust Nina, director Frances Lawrence and author Suzanne Collins will give us the perfect Finnick. Like Nina said, “the person who gives the best audition and looks and feels most like the part” The person can look like Finnick, but to play him is a different story.
But I would really like to know who is playing Finnick really soon.
