Hunger Games Capitol Wig
One of the things I’m interested to see in The Hunger Games movie is how outlandish the citizens of The Capitol will look. We have already gotten a few good looks of Effie Trinket, and seen some Capitol folk in The World Will Be Watching poster, but this wig gives us another sneak peek into what the people of the Capitol will look like
The pictured Hunger Games wig was given to Alison at ModernSalon.com by Joico, whose stylists did all of the cuts and color for the film. In an article about Hunger Games hair, Alison lets us know how Cherry Petenbrink, one of Joico’s top colorists who was in charge of all hair color design for the film, transformed Jennifer Lawrence from a blonde to a brunette:
“she transformed the actress’ Level 9 dimensional blonde in two steps.
Step one: She first filled the hair with a Joico Vero Chrome Demi Permanent Color ¾ N6 + ¼ G6 and processed 20 minutes.
Step two: She glazed the hair with Joico Vero Chrome ¾ A5 + ¼ N4. “
I don’t know much about dying hair, but I really love the use of multiple colors in this wig. So far the wigs we’ve seen, Effie’s and Caesar’s, have been one color so now I’m looking forward too see how extreme Capitol hair will get. The Scoop on the Hair Secrets of ‘The Hunger Games’!
InStyle got the inside story on the hair in The Hunger Games when they recently spoke to the head hair department Linda Flowers:
“This was one of the most complex, detailed movies I’ve ever worked on,” hair department head Linda Flowers told InStyle.com. “People are going to be blown away by how beautiful and breathtaking it is.”
They compiled some interesting stats regarding what the cast and extras had to go through for the hair and make-up. It sounds like a lot of time and effort went into making everyone, even the extras, look the part! Take a look at some of the list, and don’t forget to check out the full list at InStyle!
3,000: People who were processed through the hair and makeup tents each week. “Extras couldn’t just have their normal hair. Everyone had to be in the style of the time,” said Flowers.
500: Cast members and extras who had their eyebrows bleached, including Elizabeth Banks, who plays Effie Trinket.
400: Cast members and extras wearing wigs in a single day of filming. “We went with odd permutations of colors like dusty rose and chartreuse,” Flowers said. “The challenge was to make them look couture and sophisticated.”
20: Minutes spent creating Katniss Everdeen’s signature braid for Jennifer Lawrence.
1: Wig worn by Stanley Tucci, who plays Caesar Flickerman. “It’s a dark navy blue wig in a Karl Lagerfeld-style ponytail,” she says.
Does all this paying attention to detail make you guys excited to see a full length trailer?? I’m super curious to see how everything turns out!

Hunger Games Makeup Artist Ve Neill Spills Movie Details at Syfy Press Tour
“I think we stuck really closely to the book….I mean…as closely as we could…you know, within reason. There were some things we really couldn’t do and there were some things we felt….y’now, in a book it’s really fabulous–things read really well-but in real life some things don’t […] transform or transfer [from] that realm as well”
“There were certain things we couldn’t do, and possibly in the films to come we may be able to accomplish some other things. But I think everybody’s gonna really enjoy this first film.”
“It’s gonna come off really well. It’s pretty great. The kids were amazing, every single one of them, and they were all so much fun to work with.”

Woody Harrelson Talks about Playing Haymitch for Laughs Without Going Over the Top
Haymitch Abernathy is played by Woody Harrelson in The Hunger Games, and Harrelson had a brief chat with the LA Times to discuss how he stepped into the role of the enigmatic mentor-
- “It was my objective to give the character as much comedy as I could without it seeming not to fit, I tried to take a certain comedic aspect and give a sense, through that, that he’s been through a lot and is anesthetizing himself as a result of that.”
- “I didn’t want it to feel like just because he’s an alcoholic that he would look just like any bum on the street. So there are things that go against your expectation of what a washed-up guy would look like,”
Interesting. I’m not the biggest Woody Harrelson fan, but it’s good to hear that he really explored what makes Haymitch tick instead of just going for the obvious. I’m sure his character will offer some occasional comic relief without going over the top to contrast with the very serious tone of much of the novel.
Harrelson also says that fans have no need to worry-the movie will be surprising and inventive:
- “The essence of the book is going to be in the film,” “It’s something we’ve never seen before. We have the best wardrobe, the best costume people, the best makeup people. There’s a level of commitment to innovation that [filmgoers] have never seen. I think they’re going to be very pleasantly surprised by it.”
