Certain Walmart, FYE and Toys ‘R Us stores will be having release parties to celebrate, so be sure to check where you can meet the stars and our summary of all the different DVD/Blu-Ray editions as well as details on the midnight events in your city!
If you’re sticking at home rather than going out for the midnight release, Amazon is having a special where if you order the DVD or Blu-Ray you’ll be to able to watch a digital copy of the movie instantly at midnight.
‘Hunger Games’ Stars To Appear at Walmart’s Midnight DVD Release Parties!
Walmart has announced some of the Hunger Games stars to appear at the Walmart Midnight DVD Release Party for The Hunger Games on Friday night August 17th at selected Walmart locations!
To pay tribute to The Hungers Games DVD release on Saturday, Walmart is offering exclusive, early access to The Hunger Games fans so they can be among the first to own their special edition DVD.
Here’s what The Hunger Games fans will find at their local Walmart starting at 11 p.m. on Friday, August 17:
- · District Parties featuring special giveaways, movie trivia and the opportunity to win exclusive The Hunger Gamesprizes
- · Fans who purchase the DVD at midnight will receive a special pack of collectible The Hunger Games trading cards, while supplies last. A select number of random packs will include an autographed card from one of the cast members.
- · Customers who prefer to pre-order The Hunger Games 2-disc Blu-ray or DVD online at Walmart.com prior to the movie’s release on August 18 will have a chance to win a trip to Los Angeles to attend The Hunger Games: Catching Fire premiere or other exclusive prizes.
- · In select stores, fans will have the opportunity to meet the following cast members:

Behind the Scenes at ‘Camp Hunger Games’ from Wired

Hunger Games Download Featured on Front Page of iTunes with New Details
iTunes is now featuring a prominent banner for The Hunger Games on the front page of the store. The page for the digital version of the movie has also been updated to say “ITUNES EXTRAS INCLUDE AN EXCLUSIVE INTERACTIVE EXPRIENCE AND OVER 2 HOURS OF SPECIAL FEATURES.”
“Exclusive Interactive Experience” hmm? Sounds boss!

Sneak Peek: ‘The Hunger Games’ Special Features on DVD / Blu-Ray
Lionsgate invited a handful of folks from various Hunger Games fan sites to tell them about the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray releases of the movie. We were treated to a 22 minute sneak peek of footage in a presentation that was created specifically for us. As if the oohs and aahs of the footage wasn’t enough, we were treated with a visit from a special guest.
Jackie Emerson (Foxface) came to chat and have lunch with us. She was delightful and so pretty. Our hosts from Lionsgate spent time with all of us asking about what our fans like to see most in the extras on DVD and Blu-ray versions of the movies. Commentary from the stars of the film, blooper reel, and deleted scenes were brought up the most. What extras do you want to see?
Every DVD/Blu-ray set will have a standard set of special features, but the exclusive versions will have something different for everyone. Fans will have no shortage of choices as Walmart, Target, iTunes, Costco, and Best Buy all have exclusive features.
- The Target Deluxe Edition includes a collectible case and forty-five minutes of exclusive content. The exclusive content includes: Tribute Video Diaries, Stories from the Tributes, Tribute Biographies, Tribute Photo Gallery.
- The Walmart Edition includes: The Stunts of the Hunger Games, Capitol Couture: The Styles of Panem, VUDU, Digital Copy, Mockingjay pendant.
- iTunes is offering a behind the scenes look at the special effects.
- The Costco box set includes: Digital Copy, Parachute necklace, District 12 Tribute Backpack, Keychain.
- Best Buy has another box set that includes a four-disc set with exclusive special features and a collectible.
Which version you get will depend on what interests you most. While we cannot post a review of the Special Features until August 18th, just know that out of the 3 hours (that’s right 3 hours) of extras there is something for everyone.
