Sneak Peek: ‘The Hunger Games’ Special Features on DVD / Blu-Ray

Lionsgate invited a handful of folks from various Hunger Games fan sites to tell them about the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray releases of the movie. We were treated to a 22 minute sneak peek of footage in a presentation that was created specifically for us. As if the oohs and aahs of the footage wasn’t enough, we were treated with a visit from a special guest.
Jackie Emerson (Foxface) came to chat and have lunch with us. She was delightful and so pretty. Our hosts from Lionsgate spent time with all of us asking about what our fans like to see most in the extras on DVD and Blu-ray versions of the movies. Commentary from the stars of the film, blooper reel, and deleted scenes were brought up the most. What extras do you want to see?
Every DVD/Blu-ray set will have a standard set of special features, but the exclusive versions will have something different for everyone. Fans will have no shortage of choices as Walmart, Target, iTunes, Costco, and Best Buy all have exclusive features.
- The Target Deluxe Edition includes a collectible case and forty-five minutes of exclusive content. The exclusive content includes: Tribute Video Diaries, Stories from the Tributes, Tribute Biographies, Tribute Photo Gallery.
- The Walmart Edition includes: The Stunts of the Hunger Games, Capitol Couture: The Styles of Panem, VUDU, Digital Copy, Mockingjay pendant.
- iTunes is offering a behind the scenes look at the special effects.
- The Costco box set includes: Digital Copy, Parachute necklace, District 12 Tribute Backpack, Keychain.
- Best Buy has another box set that includes a four-disc set with exclusive special features and a collectible.
Which version you get will depend on what interests you most. While we cannot post a review of the Special Features until August 18th, just know that out of the 3 hours (that’s right 3 hours) of extras there is something for everyone.
It was great to meet people from the other fan sites and share all the excitement. Special thanks to Lionsgate showing us that we have a lot to look forward to in the DVD/Blu-ray release and also for their dedication and appreciation of the fans.
Interest in archery at the London Olympics is gaining popularity due to ‘Hunger Games’ influence
With the world watching archery with wide eyed excitement during the London Olympics, Hunger Games fans are learning about the sport.
Lorig and her teammates say when Hollywood hits the bull’s-eye, archery is the beneficiary. All of a sudden, it’s cool to be a toxophilite (a student or lover of archery). Kids are asking for lessons, the USA Archery website is seeing a significant spike in hits, and more and more people are learning the difference between a quiver (the sack that holds the arrows) and the fletching (the feathers on the end of arrow).
“Absolutely there has been more attention to our sport since Hunger Games came out,” Lorig said. “We have a great sport, a unique sport, and it deserves this recognition. Hollywood is bringing archery out to the open more, and a lot of kids are loving it. I think it will be great if more kids start the sport, keep them off the street.”
Brady Ellison, the top-ranked American men’s archer, agreed.
“The movies have really raised the profile of archery and the media does a great job of keeping people interested,” he said.
