Philip Seymour Hoffman to Play Plutarch Heavensbee?
Jeff Snieder of Variety has reported via Twitter that Philip Seymour Hoffman was recently presented the role of Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” Hoffman is a well-known actor, who took home a 2005 Oscar for Best Actor in the movie “Capote” and starred as the villain in action blockbuster “Mission: Impossible III” in 2006.
It is not known if Philip Seymour Hoffman has accepted and Lionsgate has not confirmed that such an offer was made yet. So, until we hear otherwise, consider this a rumor.
I think I approve of this casting choice, if it is official and not just a rumor. I never really had an image of Plutarch in my mind while reading “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay,” as his appearance was not described at length, if at all. Philip Seymour Hoffman is certainly a great actor and there’s no reason he wouldn’t be able to pull it off. I don’t know why, but with those glasses and the facial hair, Hoffman just screams Plutarch to me. And, oddly enough, he’s got the same initials as the Head Gamemaker.
What do YOU think of Philip Seymour Hoffman potentially playing Plutarch?
Thanks to Tay for catching this!
