featured catching fire Francis Lawrence will Most Likely to be Director for Catching Fire Francis Lawrence 300x234It looks like Francis Lawrence has been chosen by Lionsgate to be the director for the Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, though we are still waiting to hear if he has accepted their offer. You may recognize his work from I Am Legend and Water for Elephants. I am having high hopes for him, as I loved I Am Legend, but what do you think about Francis Lawrence directing the sequel?

My friends are VERY excited about this guy directing C.F. Francis Lawrence, I entrust you with directing C.F, I’m sure you won’t mess it up, :)

  • Unknown

I just hope he understands the concept as well as Gary Ross seemed to.

    • TeamPeeta

      Totally agree

I’ve heard that most of his movies were pretty lame.  So I seriously hope that he doesn’t mess this up.

  • Feathers

I’ve never seen Water For Elephants or I Am Legend, but I will if it gives me a better picture of what Catching Fire could turn out to be. Really hope he understands the concept, I’ve met plenty of people who don’t.

  • Natalie

I didn’t like I am Legend. I haven’t seen Water for Elephants. I hope he doesn’t mess up Catching Fire. The reason why The Hunger Games was so good is because Gary understood the book I am a little skeptical about this guy.

I feel like I am the only one who is not sad that Gary Ross will not be directing Catching Fire.  Yes, the movie was pretty true to the book, but that largely depends on the screenwriters.  The actual directing I was not a huge fan of – I didn’t like all the shaking hand camera action, and I feel like certain scenes were wasted without as much explanation as they needed.  The bread scene for example, they showed it like three times, yet unless you read the books, it’s not very clear how starving Katniss was, and for some people it wasn’t even clear that Peeta threw her the bread.  A couple people I know who didn’t read them thought he just threw it on the ground and that was it.  Yet they just kept showing the pigs, which was not that important.

I agree. I am actually excited to see what  a new director can offer. I hated the shaky camera and felt certain scenes were just lacking. I am hoping for great things!

      • Hanna Everdeen

thats totally how i thought about it!

    • Lily Rose

Except for the part about the movie being true to the book, I agree with you completely. I know I was not happy with the realization Gary’s vision, so I’m eager to see what a pair of fresh eyes can do with CF.

    • Ashlee

I totally agree with you! I was not a fan of the shaky camera either! It made me feel sick. I’m relieved that Gary Ross won’t be directing Catching Fire.

Oh, no, please. I hated I Am Legend, I didn’t like too much Water for Elephants and he also directed Constantine, which I also hate. I really want Kathryn Bigelow to direct the movie. She has the perfect balance between War and Poverty, and SPOILER this next books are all about War, the battle that Katniss began unintentionally. So, I’d had vote for Gary, but as he isn’t returning, I vote for Kathryn. It would be a dream come true.

I agree.  I didn’t like I am Legend, although it was good for a scarey movie, but the Hunger Games books are suppose to be all about scary.

Although if some parts are scarey that’s okay, like when in the Hunger Games the first Mutt dog showed up.

      STOP YELLING AT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • j_law_4_life

Why is everyone hating on the shaky camera work? You’re typical Hollywood movie lovers who never watch indies and therefore only know the corny traditions. So what? It was for sure unconventional but brilliant for it! I wish Gary Ross was still directing but it is a good sign that it is only coming out on November 22 2013 (counting down the days!) because it shows they care about the final product and are looking for the perfect cast and crew. I may however be forced to kill myself if Zac Efron does indeed play Finnick Odair!

I didn’t like the shaky camera work because it gave me a headache partway through the movie, and many times I couldn’t tell who was who during the close fight scenes. I can handle many movies with shaky camera work, but this was so much that I felt it distracted me throughout the movie.

  • Unknown72

Y’all need to back off the shaking hands camera work.  Yes it’s not ideal, but it is necessary since the movie rating needed to PG-13 because most of the audience was comprised of teenagers.  If they could have gotten a PG-13 rating while showing all of the details, I’m sure they would have, but that’s the business.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/MelanieSpectra Melanie

Oh yes, I even suspected that in my review to Movies.com, however I still ended up with a headache halfway throughout the movie. I don’t mind some shaky, but that was hard on the eyes, for me anyway.

After seeing Water for Elephants, I have to say he could make Catching Fire a beautiful movie and spark up the ‘I might actually like Peeta’ angle, and he does show his ability to do the suspenseful, action packed scenes as shown by both his noted movies. I think that he would be good, just as long he is as loyal t the books as Gary, and picks up on the things Gary had to leave out of the first movie.

  • Kat

‘I Am Legend’ and ‘Water For Elephants’ are both exceptionally well made films. I feel as though Francis Lawrence is as good a candidate as any to direct Catching Fire. I will not miss the shaky camera work of Gary Ross. I understand why he did it, but I’m not sure it should have been done. The movie was rated too low for my taste. I think the violence should have been seen to make a point.  I don’t feel like the movie had as much impact as the book and this is why it has become another movie where the message is second to the hot guy leads. I know some younger girls who have seen it and they all think it would be a delight to go into the arena and fight if Peeta was there. They’ve clearly missed the point. Some say, well it has to be PG13 because of the audience the book is directed towards. That doesn’t make sense to me. The books are violent. All of the teenage girls have read them and seem to either understand or simply accept the violence in them, so why take the violence out of the movie adaptation? It seems like they were trying to a) make it a movie for all generations or b) increase their profit. I hope it’s not the latter. The reality is, The Hunger Games message would be good for everyone to hear and acknowledge but some aren’t at the appropriate age/time in their lives to be able to understand it and see how gruesome rebellions and war can be.

  • sarah99

well if he directed Water for Elephants than he must be very talented!!!!

  • Lexheinwitz

Wouldn’t be surprised if he Catching Fire isn’t as good as the Hunger Games. The 2nd and 3rd book fell off and it was a drag to read. Definitely could be better on screen though.

  • jocelyn<3HungerGames

******Cool, Maybe catching fire will have better camera work:) not to be offensive or anything but after you watch the movie four times you cant help notice things you havent before and the camerra work in hunger games got me dissy. i hope they dont do twilight directing cuz that kind of ruined the whole effect of each character a changing how they look how the scene looks and how they act. so they should stick to a director and keep it natural and action packed still:D this is the first love movie that i got my whole family to watch together!

  • peetalove<3

i didn’t really like the shaky camera either but still it makes it more real and intense its not like in real life when u walk or run or anything its just a straight sreen

  • Kristabel Lim

    I couldn’t watch the movie. SAD. :(

  • Naty

For the DreamCast, I have Greg Proops as Beetee. Who’s with me?

The guy can do much more than comedy; he is a -superb- actor. He is perfect for this role, both physical and emotionally! Please? We almost got it trending two nights ago on Twitter.

  • Daniela

Recently I heard “this girl is on fire” from Alicia Keys and thought what a perfect theme song that would be. But it may be too late for that.
